Meet the Maker | Kaden Boekhoorn of Passage Wines

At Farmer’s Daughters, every bottle we pour tells a Gippsland story. This June at Wine House, we’re proud to showcase the inaugural releases from one of the region’s most exciting emerging winemakers: Kaden Boekhoorn of Passage Wines. Featuring his Passage Pinot Gris and Passage Syrah, this month’s spotlight celebrates a producer whose connection to Gippsland runs deeper than grapes alone.

Passage Wines is the vision of Kaden Boekhoorn, a Gippsland-based grower and winemaker whose journey into wine has been shaped by curiosity, patience and a deep respect for place.

Before turning to wine, Kaden spent a decade working in specialty coffee, where he developed an appreciation for how landscape, farming and craft influence flavour. That same fascination eventually led him to Gippsland’s vineyards, where he spent years learning the rhythms of farming and viticulture before releasing his first commercial wines under the Passage label in 2024.

Today, Passage Wines farms a small parcel of Pinot Noir in Baw Baw Shire and works with carefully selected cool-climate vineyard sites across Gippsland. The philosophy is simple: thoughtful farming, minimal intervention in the winery and wines that speak honestly of their origin. Wild fermentation, gentle handling and patient maturation allow each site and season to take centre stage.
